The International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) is an annual competition held for individuals and teams every year in the month of December of the competition year. This is the only international academic exam that covers Physics, Chemistry, and Biology simultaneously. Famous for its intricacy, it demands much more than theoretical knowledge on the subjects. In fact, it requires students to master the subjects with firm command over the most critical aspects with consummate ease. The test requires students to be under fifteen years of age as of 31st December of the competition year. Taking into consideration the significance of Natural Sciences in the general education of young people in all walks of life, this test has started to gain tremendous traction.
In the UAE, www.olympiads.org is the official representative of International Olympiad Foundation (IOF). The Preliminary Olympiad qualifier is a multiple choice question test (MCQ). The Preliminary Olympiad qualifier can be taken in UAE in all the Emirates (Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwwain and Fujairah).
Ministry of Education, UAE hosted the 18th International Junior Science Olympiad in the year 2021 and won the bronze medal.
Syllabus
The International Junior Science Olympiad is a general science competition. The IJSO syllabus is therefore not strictly divided into the disciplines biology, chemistry, and physics, but rather intends to highlight basic general concepts in science.
This conceptual approach is also meant to encourage the development of problems of interdisciplinary content and relevance.
