UK CAT / EMC
The UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) helps universities to make more informed choices from amongst the many highly-qualified applicants to medical and dental programmes. It helps to ensure that candidates selected have the most appropriate mental abilities, attitudes and professional behavior required for new doctors and dentists to be successful in their clinical careers. It is used in collaboration with other admissions processes such as the UCAS application and academic qualifications.
The UKCAT does not contain any curriculum or science content. It focuses on exploring the cognitive powers of candidates and other attributes considered to be valuable for health care professionals.
All test questions are written by assessment experts and must pass detailed trials to ensure their validity and reliability. All questions, test duration, sequencing and style are reviewed on an ongoing basis to ensure that the test is culturally fair and bias is minimised. There is a programme of new item development including the testing of new questions as non-scoring components of the test.
The UKCAT is a compulsory entry requirement for Consortium Universities. UKCAT results cannot be carried over from one year to the next.
Meccademia coaching centres adopt a number of powerful preparation methods:
- Content: Faculties at Meccademia use the most relevant and frequently tested content helping its students to fully familiarise themselves with the UK CAT and to organise their time in an effective manner to achieve the best scores.
- Critical Thinking Strategies: Realising that standardised tests rely on more than just the content, Meccademia constantly updates and customises its study and reference material, along with practice test papers, to ensure that it addresses the student's specific areas of concern. A personalised report which identifies areas of weaknesses and strengths is generated to help the student identify his or her testing patterns and work in a focused manner. Our result-oriented strategies enable students to increase both speed and accuracy.
- Essential Practice: Collection of practice tests, other than basic content and timed drills, follow the same structure of the actual EXAM. The realistic practice and extensive training, as well as test day tips and exam strategies provided by expert instructors, enhance students' confidence in facing the actual test.
